The Great Latgalian Market
Every year, on the Saturday before Midsummer, Ludza Castle Hill hosts the Great Latgalian Market, where craftsmen, home producers, and farmers from Latgale and other regions offer a wide variety of handmade products, gifts, and festive foods. Visitors can also enjoy performances by local artistic groups and invited artists, including songs, dances, activities, and workshops for learning, entertainment, and celebration.

Ancient Crafts Fair
Held in Ludza Old Town Square during the Ludza City Festival on the morning of the second Saturday in August.

Traditional Celebration Events
Traditional seasonal celebrations such as Meteņi, the Great Day (spring solstice), Ūsiņš, the Summer Solstice, and other cultural festivities take place at 28 Tālavijas Street, in the Seasonal Garden next to the Latgalian Cuisine area and the Crafts Centre. Visitors can enjoy markets, traditional activities, demonstrations, and local treats in a festive atmosphere shared by the community.

Traditional Skills School Workshops
Every spring, we organise workshops dedicated to ancient crafts as part of our Traditional Skills School programme, including meetings with master craftsmen and consultations about traditional craft secrets and techniques. We regularly participate in the “Meet Your Master” initiative, the Latgale artisan route “Zalta Rūku Ceļš” (“The Golden Hands Road”), School Bag Programme events, and career education projects.

Over the years, our guests have especially enjoyed workshops in traditional slipper weaving, mitten and sock knitting, ancient single-needle weaving techniques, belt weaving, weaving ancient Latgalian shawls, embroidery of Latgale shawls, wooden spoon carving, woven fence making, felt-making, splint basket weaving, spinning, sheep wool processing, beeswax candle making, archaeological jewellery crafting, plant-based yarn dyeing, knitting on a rake frame, and many other traditional craft activities.

Information and registration for workshops are announced in advance.
