Woodworking and Restoration Workshop
On May 15, 2017, a Woodworking Reconstruction and Restoration Workshop was opened in the premises of the “Senpilsāta” association at 15a 1. Maija Street in Ludza Old Town, next to the recently restored Great Ludza Synagogue - one of the region’s most remarkable wooden architectural monuments.
The project’s main objective was to create a specialised workshop dedicated to the reconstruction and restoration of wooden architectural elements in accordance with the cultural and historical traditions of Latgale. As Ludza is an important urban architectural heritage site, preserving and authentically restoring its historic wooden buildings is essential, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern restoration techniques.
The workshop offers the production and restoration of wooden architectural and interior elements, as well as authentic examples of traditional windows, decorative details, and historic interior features. Plans also include the creation of a small exhibition showcasing traditional wooden architectural elements from Latgale.
The project was implemented with support from the Latvian Rural Development Programme 2014–2020 under sub-measure 19.2 “Implementation of Activities in Accordance with Community-Led Local Development Strategies” (Project No. 16-01-AL34-A019.2101-000006).
May Ludza - the ancient pearl of Latgale - continue to grow ever more beautiful.
